“Mark Travis is the only practical teacher of directing I've ever met -- and simply the best. I learned more from him than I did in four years of film school!”

Course program:
Ten days that will stimulate your imagination, challenge your talent and reshape your perceptions of the filmmaking process.  Whether actor, director, writer or producer – we are all filmmakers, we are storytellers.  We have all elected to participate in a storytelling process (film) that calls for deep commitments, collaboration and trust.

In THE DIRECTOR’S JOURNEY module (3 days) we will explore the film making process from script to completion.  We will be examining the role of the director in this process and how he/she designs and defines a ‘vision’ for the story – and how he/she manages to bring that vision to the screen.
We will be using the script from AS GOOD AS IT GETS as a model during our investigation of the film directing process.

In THE THREE MASTER CLASSES (3 days – Rehearsal, Staging, Derector and Camera)  we will now begin to explore more specific ways of directing.

THE DIRECTORS’ WORKSHOP is four days dedicated to giving sixteen directors an opportunity to work with text and actors under my guidance and supervision. The remaining directors will have the opportunity to observe this work and be involved in the on-going dialogue about the directing process.
